Successful Alternator Testing and Commissioning for Palm Oil Mill

We're excited to share another successful project from our team! We have just completed the full testing and commissioning of a critical steam turbine alternator for one of our key partners in the palm oil industry. After a major service, this unit is now back online, ensuring the mill has the reliable power it needs to maintain production.

In a busy palm oil mill, the steam turbine and alternator are the heart of the operation, turning biomass waste into valuable electricity. Unplanned downtime, especially during peak season, is simply not an option. That's why our commissioning process is so thorough. Our goal is to make sure the equipment is ready to perform safely and efficiently under the demanding, hot, and humid conditions of the mill.

Our engineering team conducted a series of crucial checks to guarantee the alternator's health and reliability:

  • Deep Dive into Insulation Health: We performed detailed insulation resistance (IR) and polarization index (PI) tests to ensure the alternator's windings can handle the electrical load and challenging environment.

  • Solid Connections Check: By measuring winding resistance, we confirmed all internal electrical connections are tight and secure.

  • High-Voltage "Stress Test": Our high potential (Hi-Pot) test verifies that the insulation is robust and free from any weak spots that could cause issues down the line.

  • Smooth Operator Checks: Using advanced vibration analysis, we made sure the alternator runs smoothly, preventing unnecessary wear and tear on bearings and other mechanical parts.

  • Real-World Performance Test: The final step was to bring the alternator online and monitor its performance under the mill's actual production load. It passed with flying colors, delivering stable and reliable power.
